Shrink Film Packaging: Waterproof, Secure & Versatile
Shrink film (also called shrink wrap) is a type of plastic film that shrinks tightly around products when heat is applied. It is commonly used in both retail and industrial packaging. The film protects items, improves how products look, and helps reduce damage during transport.
What is Shrink Film?
Shrink film is made from different plastic materials like Polyolefin (POF), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), and Polyethylene (PE). Each material has its own use. For example, polyolefin is strong and clear, good for displaying products. Polyethylene is tougher and used for heavy packaging. These films can be printed or laminated to match branding.
How Shrink Film Works
To use shrink film, you wrap it around the item and apply heat. This can be done with a heat gun or a heat tunnel (machine conveyor). The heat causes the film to shrink tightly. This tightness is called shrink force, measured in PSI. It’s useful when packing fragile or multiple items together securely.
Applications of Shrink Film
1. Retail Packaging
Shrink film is used to pack everyday items like vegetables, fruits, snacks, cosmetics, and toys. It keeps products clean and safe, and customers can see what’s inside clearly. It also helps in preventing tampering.
2. Industrial Use
In industries, thicker shrink film is used to cover big items like machines, furniture, windows, or even boats and helicopters. It protects them from dust, moisture, and scratches during shipping.
3. Window Insulation
Shrink film is also used in homes. You can cut the film to window size, stick it using double-sided tape, and apply heat. This seals the window and keeps cool or hot air from entering, helping save energy.
